Third-Generation Inspire – Finally, Discovering That Longitudinal Engines Don’t Suit Honda
The third-generation Honda Inspire, also known as the Saber in some markets, marked a turning point in Honda’s design philosophy. Launched on October 15, 1998, this model was the first Honda built in the USA and exported back to Japan, cleverly circumventing heavy import tariffs. It introduced innovative features like the Internavi navigation system and shifted from a longitudinal 5-cylinder engine to a transverse V6 with VTEC. Enhanced with safety features such as dual-stage airbags and a unique foot-operated parking brake, the Inspire redefined performance and comfort, paving the way for future Honda innovations.
