🚗 Introduction

This article takes a historical look at the development philosophy behind the S-series sports cars. Beyond just engines, it explores chassis and suspension design, emphasizing that Honda’s core strength lies not only in its engines but, more importantly, in handling performance.

📈 Engine Specs of the S-Series Models
S500: AS280E engine, max horsepower 44 HP at 8000 RPM
S600: AS285E engine, max horsepower 57 HP at 8500 RPM
S800: AS800E engine, max horsepower 70 HP at 8000 RPM
S2000: F20C engine, max horsepower 250 HP at 8300 RPM
S2000: F22C engine, max horsepower 242 HP at 7800 RPM
Apart from the F22C-powered S2000, all previous S-series models reached peak horsepower above 8000 RPM. This data underscores Honda's focus on handling rather than just raw engine power.

🏁 The Beginning: S360 and S500
In 1962, Honda introduced the S360 at the 9th All Japan Motor Show. Although it never went into production, it laid the foundation for the S-series. In 1963, Honda launched its first mass-produced sports car, the S500, featuring the AS280E engine with 44 HP and an 8000 RPM redline.

🔧 Technical Evolution: S600 and S800
The S600, which debuted in 1964, continued the S500's design and became the first Asian sports car exported to Europe. The S800, released in 1966, featured an upgraded engine with 791cc, producing 70 HP. It also introduced a simplified five-link rear suspension.

🔥 The Pinnacle: S2000
The S2000, launched in 1999, featured the F20C engine, delivering 250 HP and redlining at 8800 RPM. The later F22C1 model reduced the redline slightly but retained Honda's high-rev spirit.

🤔 Looking Forward
The last S-series model, the S2000, was discontinued in 2009. Although the S660 was released, it is not considered a true successor. Enthusiasts continue to await the return of a new S-series sports car.

We hope for a new chapter in Honda's legendary S-series!
